9 February 2016, a meeting about the role of culture and heritage in peace building and creating safe spaces, Spring House, Amsterdam. Register here.
I believe culture, heritage and the arts are uniquely positioned to contribute positively to solving some of the greatest challenges of our time. I also believe professionals in our sector should be activists: We should strive to make a change.
From this belief, over the past few years, I’ve been teaching a module on society and transformation for the master students of the Reinwardt Academy, together with Paula dos Santos. This year, we’re taking our course a step further by organising an event around some of the biggest and most pressing issues: peace building, culture and heritage in conflict and what has become known as the refugee crisis in Europe.
If you’re in Amsterdam 9 February, I’d like to invite you to a meeting about the role of culture and heritage in peace building, creating safe spaces and our comfort zone, in the morning between 8:30 and 12:00 at Spring House, De Ruyterkade 128, Amsterdam.
Diana Walters, one of the people whose example I try to follow in heritage activism, will give a workshop about her work in restoring communities and peace building for Cultural Heritage without Borders. Other cultural and social innovators and activists will share their stories and experiences about cultural and heritage activism, and together we’ll look at ways to grow our comfort zone as cultural professionals.
The meeting will be highly participatory, and very hands-on, using the experience of all participants to create a safe and comfortable space with more than enough room for meetings and the exchange of experiences and ideas. Register immediately below, via this website or by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I hope to see you the 9th!
